A Young Creative Career : Focus ~ Motivation ~ Challenges

Nikki will talk about her professional journey to date, sharing her experience of how to develop a creative career, how to stay focused and motivated, and how to overcome problems along the way.

Nikki graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2017 with a first class honours degree in Theatre Design. A specialist in Puppetry, Nikki won the Young Creative Award for Visual Art in 2015. She went on to join the creative team producing the opening, closing and medal ceremonies of the World Cerebral Palsy Games in 2015. In 2017 she was presented with the Excellence in Design award by the Chartered Institute of Designers. Since graduating, Nikki has developed a career as a Theatre Designer, Puppeteer, Workshop Leader and Puppet Maker, working all over the UK.

Ben will talk about his experience, challenges and golden gems of lessons learnt along the way.

Ben trained as an actor at the BAFTA award winning Television Workshop in Nottingham from the age of 12. He co-founded Sheep Soup Productions with Artistic Director, Nic Harvey in 2012.

He works as a compere/host both as himself and Sheep Soup created character Mrs Green performing at festivals and gig venues across the UK including hosting Notts TV launch, introducing HRH Prince Harry to Nottingham. He is now Director of Nottingham’s charity music festival Hockley Hustle and is producing a BFI funded short film over Summer 2019.

Ben’s work as General Manager and now Creative Producer at Sheep Soup has seen him successfully progress the company from their debut show Mrs Green through to today including 4 successful Arts Council England applications

In October 2016, Ben was awarded the Noble Kahn Award for Championing Diversity within the TV, Film and Theatre Industry.

THE PRINCE'S TRUST

Also a fantastic opportunity to find out more about The Prince's Trust & their work in Nottingham.

It all began in 1976, when HRH The Prince of Wales had a bold idea. Having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, His Royal Highness became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK. He founded His Trust to deliver on that commitment.

We believe that every young person should have the chance to embrace exciting opportunities. So, we help 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives. Our free programmes give young people the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives. We help them develop key skills while boosting their confidence and motivation so they can continue to dream big.

Take that idea you've been dreaming of and, with our Enterprise training, mentoring and funding, become your own boss.
