Event information / agenda

A Big House Event supported by Real Creative Futures Digital

Produce an array of stunning handmade papers derived from natural materials such as kitchen waste and locally sourced plant matter. This is an introduction to papermaking techniques including pulping, sheet formation, pressing, and drying - all of which affect the resulting paper. In addition, the decorative use of grasses, flowers and seeds will be explored to achieve different textures and surfaces.

Participants will come away with a range of handmade papers created on the workshop plus further recipes to explore at their leisure. Participants are encouraged to continue exploring the knowledge gained during workshops and incorporate the processes learned into their practice as they will be invited to submit work to a showcase exhibition in September 2022.

Refreshments will be provided by Attenborough Nature Centre

Clare Tylor runs Bus and Bird Arts, a small community arts organisation, which she set up in 2016. Her role as a freelance artist educator means helping audiences find happiness and engagement through creative activity. Clare works with lots of different groups in various settings from schools and care homes through to festivals and events.

Alongside her passion for participatory arts, she continues to make her own art work under the pseudonym of ‘Curious Clare’. She creates in a small garden studio (known affectionately as The Shed of Dreams) and delights in watching the local wildlife from her shed windows. Clare’s practice is multi-disciplinary. Predominantly she works in threedimensions focusing upon the natural world and storytelling. Currently, she is exploring the concept of play and wellbeing. Clare aims to ‘tread lightly’ with her consumption of resources by reusing materials and experimenting with her own homemade inks or glazes created from waste products and natural materials.
