Event information / agenda

A Big House Event supported by Creative Quarter & delivered by Debbiedooodah and Emma Torrance.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In this 3 hour workshop with Debbie Clarke (aka debbiedooodah) and Emma Torrance, you’re going to be taken through all the things you need to consider when creating an ethical business and get your questions answered.

Debbiedooodah will take you through a 75 minute odyssey on mapping out your vision, mission, ethics and values and look at the areas you can make a difference including recruitment, purchasing, the environment and your offer.

You can be ethical in any business structure and Emma Torrance will help you to understand how to decide what the best structure will be for your business. We will be looking at social enterprises, sole traders and private ltd companies.

We’ll focus on 7 factors to help you decide which structure is for you:

1. Control

2. Risk

3. Taxes & where you will pay the least

4. Reputation, image & who your customers are

5. Applying for funding & loans

6. Simplicity v complexity

7. Privacy

There are a number of different types of social enterprise so next we’ll look at a comparison summary for the different social enterprise structures so you can compare key features at a glance.

Finally, once you have picked a legal structure, we will look at how you set up, and what your ongoing legal obligations will be (governance).
