WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Workshop 2: Showing and selling your creative work online.

• Why sell online? Are you ready to sell online?

• Which products and services sell well online, and which ones don’t?

• What are the best places to show and sell online? 8 different opportunities to show and sell creative products online, and their pro and cons. Are you missing out on some quick and alternative ways to show and sell online?

• The 9 steps to get your creative business online swiftly:

o What kind of website do you want? What’s the purpose of your website?

o What’s the best software or online market place for your kind of products and services? With some of the pro and cons of each.

o Create your own website layout: which pages do you need and what goes on each?

o How to write a good product page with product title and description, explaining the basics of SEO and keywords to get found.

o The importance of images for your site and what kind of images you’ll need.

o What pages and text do you need? What will be your tone of voice for your audience?

o “People only buy from people they know, like and trust” – how to build your profile, credibility and trust online.

o Pricing your work and online payment options

o Implementation and time management to get the job done quickly and well!

• How to launch your website successfully – why launch? When will you launch? How to start driving the first visitors to your website.

• Throughout this practical session you will identify specific activities that you need to do to get your website live asap. You will leave with a mini action plan to get your site ready, to improve your website or to (re)launch your site.

This session will help you to get organised about showing and selling online. Especially if you haven’t got a website yet or you are stuck with launching your website then this workshop will really help you to focus and identify the next steps you will need to work on.

Note that we will not be going into detail into the backend of any software, so this is not a technical workshop.

Homework in advance of this workshop: your website details, what do you do for whom, 3 client personas/ collages, and 3 things you are proud of on your website and 3 things you want to improve (if no website then about social media).

WHO IS PATRICIA VAN DEN AKKER?

Patricia van den Akker is the Director of The Design Trust, an online business school for designers and makers, who has worked for over 20 years as a creative business advisor, trainer and coach with 1 000s of creatives. The website gets over 40k visits/month.

Patricia is known for her practical but strategic approach to business development raining. She regularly runs professional development workshops for the Royal College of Ars, University of the Arts London/ Central St Martins, University College London, Space Studios London/ Cockpit Arts, Yorkshire Art Space, Plymouth School of Arts, and various trade fair and craft show organisations.

This event is free, but space is limited. You must be enrolled with The Big House and/or RCF-D. Space is limited, so make sure to book your ticket today to guarantee your place.

PLEASE NOTE: The Big House events are free to you, because they are funded – however there is a cost attached to them for us and we are a not-for-profit organisation. So, if you have registered to come, your place will have been paid for. Our events are very popular and we often have a waiting list.
