Learning how to promote what we do without selling what we do

About this Event

A Big House event, part-funded by the Creative Quarter & delivered by Mark Jarvis.


People buy people. People will buy you before they buy what you do.

In this workshop you will learn how to connect without selling.

You will learn:

- a simple three step technique that will allow you to adapt your pitch to any situation.

- how to start a conversation, how to build a conversation effectively, and how to close a conversation leaving your colleague wanting more.

- how to follow-up, when to follow up and why following up is critical to building long-term relationships.

Developing a series of questions that we can use to identify which of our own pitch’s we should use.

This will answer the biggest questions:

- how do I know what to say

- which elevator pitch should I use?

.....It depends on who’s in the elevator with you!

This is why we each develop a series of pitches for any given situation.


Entrepreneurs & small businesses who are enrolled on The Big House Programme and looking to develop & grow their business.


Mark is a specialist in networking and referral marketing. He is known for helping businesses generate £millions in new business by referral. He is on a mission to help make doing business easier, removing barriers to referrals and building brand advocates.

He has a passion for helping successful business owners, executives and managers grow profits, save time and build culture.

They don’t want advice, telling them what they should and should not do. They do however, often need new knowledge and learning, to apply ‘better thinking’ in their business – something he knows from personal experience. Mark has delivered over 1000 hours of seminars, workshops and talks for groups including business clubs, student leaders, voluntary organisation, franchise groups and chartered institute groups as well as multi-speaker themed events.


Registration from 9.30am with the course starting at 9.45am. We aim to finish at 12.30pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Eligibility & Enrolment

You must be eligible to enrol with The Big House to attend this workshop. The Big House programme supports pre-start, start-up, growth & SMEs in the Creative or Digital sectors across Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire. If you are not already enrolled with us, you will find the appropriate form at Please download and complete the form and bring it with you to the event (in colour please), as it will be required when signing in. If you do not work in the Creative or Digital sectors, you will not be able to enrol or access this training - please email & we can refer you to another partner for support.


The Big House events are free to you, because they are funded – however there is a cost attached to them for us and we are a not-for-profit organisation. So, if you have registered to come, your place will have been paid for. Our events are popular and we often have a waiting list.
