"The Realities of Being a Creative Person & How to Make it Work!"

Daniel T. Wheeler is a Photographer, Darkroom Practitioner and Musician based in Midlands, UK. He has worked on several commissions with Derby Quad and Derby Open Centre focused on the Normanton area of Derby, which were both exhibited and published in a book.

His most recent large project ‘In Transit’ is a document of his time travelling and touring in bands around europe.

He is also the proprietor of The Photo Parlour in Nottingham; a facility for photographers which provides film processing, hand printing, darkroom hire and workshops. Through The Photo Parlour he was also responsible for helping start Nottingham Photo social.

His other big passion is teaching, with a background working in and running darkroom and art media facilities in education.

He now teaches regular courses out of The Photo Parlour aimed at making film photography accessible to everyone.

On his days off you can often find him on his allotment, which is the subject of his next photographic project.

Then with anytime left over you will find him performing in his band Cheap Jazz.

There will also be an advice desk run by Alison Denholm, Creative Development Manager, City Arts. Grab some invaluable 1:1 time with Alison to find out about how to get your art project off the ground & where to look for funding.

PLEASE NOTE: The Big House events are free to you, because they are funded – however there is a cost attached to them for us and we are a not-for-profit organisation. So, if you have registered to come, your place will have been paid for. Our events are very popular and we often have a waiting list. With this in mind, if for any reason you are unable to attend it is very important that you cancel your ticket on Eventbrite as soon as possible, to enable someone else to take your place.

As this course is part of an ERDF funded initiative, we will require you to be enrolled in The Big House Programme, prior to attending the event. If you are not already enrolled, you will find the appropriate form here. Please bring this form with you to the first workshop as it will be required when signing in.

If you would like any further information on this programme, please contact us at

NB: We will be documenting the event. If you do not wish to be included in images or videos that may be used later for marketing purposes, please let us know beforehand.
